The Transfer Counseling Center also strives to educate the campus community through presentations, public events, and outreach on strategies and opportunities at four-year colleges.
The full time counseling position is in the hiring process and will interview canidates on December 16 & 17th.
Because we are still in the hiring process we have not been able to implement any of the objective for this position.
A part time counselor was hired at the end of september and is working to increase contact with students utilizing social media to push information out to targeted students wanting to transfer to a CSU or UC campus.
Increased opportunities for student appointments, assistance with the Cross-Enrollment program, increased workshops and more availability to provide classroom presentations.
Annual Transfer Day event with 4-year colleges and selected high schools.
Perspective transfer students from butte and service area high schools were offered the opportunity to meet with representatives from colleges and universities to explore potential transfer schools and visit with those programs on campus that have an AD-T. The Student Services area is currently in the process of revamping all of their SLOs. We are meeting regularly to review and update our Student Learning Outcomes. 2. As a result of a counseling session, students will demonstate an understanding of:
** Are you planning on to Transfer to: CSU, UC Other
** Understand transfer requirements to a four-year institution
** I understand differences between Admission, & GE, & major requirements
** Have a clear understanding of competitive and impacted majors & the requirements for admission to that major
** I understand how to select classes that double count in order to satisfy multiple requirements
** Cross Enrollment Program with CSU, Chico (Y, N, NA)
** On-The-Spot Admission with various CSU participating campuses (Y, N, NA)
** Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) with UC participating campuses (Y, N,NA)

The Transfer Counseling Center has already begun conducting surveys of students to assess these outcomes. Results should be available end of Fall 2016.
The Transfer Counseling Center supports the college in meeting its student achievement goals by focusing our efforts on assisting students to develop comprehensive student education plans and making them aware of transfer initiatives at four year colleges and universities.
We continue to reach out and work with 4-year colleges and universties to develop initatives that will help Butte students become priorities for transfer and admission. We continue to approach UC Davis on participating in the Transfer Opportunity Program (TOP) that would have an evaluator from UC Davis meet with butte students once a week and provide additional workshops on UC specific topics. We are also looking into utilizing the UC data sharing project in order to contact prespective students that applied to Davis but were not admitted.
The Transfer Counseling Center supports the college in meeting its Strategic Direction and Priorities by the following:
1c.2 The TCC currently utilizes a CSEP template that is comprehensive and eductional in helping the studnet understand how to select classes and maximize efficientcies.
2a.3 The TCC continues to expand its use of technolgies including on-line advising, a more interactive website with video streaming and increased use of social media via facebook.
4.2 We continue to increase awareness and advertise the benifits of the AD-T degress in individual appointment, class presentations and publications.
The Transfer Counseling Program Review Recommendations are as follows:
1) Access to computer labs: While the TCC is now housed in a unit that included a classroom for presentations and workshops the space is now shared and the ability to host classes has been lost and to present workshops limited. COMPLETED
2) Hosting transfer banquet: The TCC has not had the funds of staffing necessary to host a transfer banquet. IN PROCESS
3) Continue Transfer Day/Career Fair: The distristrist has not had the funding for the past five years to support the combined event. Funding was available last year but the Career Center did not have the staff available to participate. We will revisit this in 2016-17. ONGOING
4) Restore the Transfer Advisory Board: The TCC will work to reconsitute the Advisiory Board for the 2016-17 academic year. IN PROGRESS
5) Increased advertising and part-time counseling: The TCC hired a PT counselor in September and received dollars to buy banners to advertise Transfer Day and workshops. ONGOING
6) Don't stretch too thin. The TCC continues to stretch itself to meet student demand for services. The full time couseling position will begin in place for the spring semester and a evaluation of services and priorities will be assessed. SSSP funds have made it possible for us to hire a full-time counselor to address this.
7) Conduct fall workshops for administration adn department chairs to update them on TCC activities: The TCC presented to administration and chairs for a few years but has not provided presentions the past few years. We will work to reinstitute our presentations. ONGOING
8) Update appliction tip sheet. We continue to update our tip sheets and post them to our website. IN PROCESS
9) Publicize availability of transfer success coure with CSU Chico: The Transfer Success course is no longer offered by the district. ONGOING
10) Assess the need for TCC suppport at the Chico Center and Glenn County. The TCC has not been a presence at off-campus sites. We have not had the staff to send off campus and it is extreamly difficult to reserve office space. HAVE SOUGHT OUT ONLINE OPTIONs TO MEET STUDENT DEMAND WITHOUT PHYSICAL LOCATION (There's no room for us at the Chico Center).
11) Utilize the BC portal to advertise TCC services and advertising: The district has been strict on what they will allow to be broadcast. The TCC is meeting with Les Juaron to discuss advertising options. IN PROGRESS.
The Transfer Counseling Center goals for the year are:
Strategy 1 - Meeting Student Demand For Services
Increase the number of individual counseling appointments available to students.
Demand for appointments exceeds availabilty due to staffing shortage. Student Success legislation requires that all students receive a Student Education Plan.
Strategy 2 - Increase Transfer Specific Workshops
Increase the number of workshops available to students including but not limited to application workshops, Transfer Admission Guarantee's (TAG), transferring to CSU/UC/Private schools and competeitve majors.
With the increase of four year transfer initiatives, i.e., Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAGS), On-the-Spot Admissions (OTSA), and ADTs there is a greater demand for appointments. Consequently, alternative ways of meeting student demand for appointments wanting basic information about program requirements need to be presented. By providing informational workshops, streaming videos, class presentations and news letter publications students are informed and screened so that only those that qualify or are eligible for a particular service or program would make an individual appointment with the a transfer counselor. These workshops would help to clarify transfer related information so that students that need basic information would receive it and those requiring more specific information or to sign up for a program or service would receive individualize services.
Strategy 3 - Initiatives With 4 year Colleges and Universities
Increase the number of visitations by four-year college representatives on campus and initiatives with 4-year colleges.
Increase the number:
Strategy 4 - Alternative Service Delivery Methods
To develop on-line streaming videos on transfer specific topics that would be posted to the Transfer Counseling Center website.
By creating streaming videos students on and off campus will be able to access an introduction to the various services we offer. Students will be able to view videos to receive basic information or view entire workshops to assist them in completing a particular transfer specific task.
With the addition of a full time counselor there is a need for additional office space. There is also a need to recapture the classroom space (SAS 259)in order to offer presentations to classes and provide workshops to students that meet demand for seats.

Part-time Counselor | The Transfer Counseling Center services is looking to increase the number of students transferring to a UC campuses. We currently participate in the UC Data sharing project and have the ability to access the names of all students in our region that have applied to a UC campus. Some of these students will have been accepted to the campus of their choice. For those students denied admission we will initiate contact with an invitation to meet with a transfer counselor and make them aware of the various services we provide that will lead to admission at the UC of their choice. Services provided to students will include workshops covering Transfer Admission Agreements (TAGS) with UC, completing admission applications, applying to competitive majors and tracking their individual progress to the point of transfer. Direct services to students and ability to target workshops to this special population will be predicated on available funding and staffing. Recruitment of prospective UC students will increase the demand for services and strain available staff and impact all students ability to schedule an appointment to see a transfer counselor. |
