CalWORKs
Mission Statement
The Butte College CalWORKs Program helps eligible CalWORKs students (1) through advocacy in school (e.g., exemption from 7 days to pay, priority registration, needs assessment and advocate for students with county CalWORKs Case Managers); (2) collaboration with the counties (Butte, Glenn and others); (3) work on employment skills readiness (getting an interview/job); (4) steps to keep a job; and (5) resources and tools needed to become more self-sufficient.
Program Description
The following services and programs are offered through the CalWORKs Program: (1) work collaboratively with the county department of employment and social service agencies to assist students with priority registration and class selection; (2) work with the College's Business Office regarding CalWORKs county billing; (3) case management of services to assist the student in school; (4) referral from county for participation in the Job Skills Workshop (JSW); and (5) referral from the county for participation in paid CalWORKs Work Study - ButteWORKs.

Student Learning/Administrative Unit Outcomes
CalWORKs students will be able to:
- Enroll, successfully complete, graduate and/or transfer with a certificate or degree.
- Identify obstacles related to work and life-choices through goal setting and application of critical thinking skills and reflection (CLP 334).
- Recognize and articulate their marketable skills for employment in collaboration with the college's Job Placement Office.

CalWORKs assists eligible students receiving CalWORKs/TANF assistance through the county. Our department encourages and works with students to identify and develop life skills, learn to complete a resume and master application, and learn interview skills in order to obtain employment. Our department also works with students to continue through their coursework at Butte College through advocacy, collaboration with the county, and opportunities to earn additional funds through the CalWORKs Work Study - ButteWORKs program.

- Look for opportunities for improvement of services.
